I. INTRODUCTION
Before registering yourself for the Solvay Business Game, you must read these rules (hereinafter called the “Official Rules”) in their entirety. By completing the registration form, thereby registering yourself and your partner, you accept without reservation the conditions of the Official Rules. Furthermore, you accept that any decision of the Solvay Business Game staff concerning the Solvay Business Game shall be firm and definitive.
II. THE SOLVAY BUSINESS GAME
- The Solvay Business Game (hereinafter called the “SBG”) is a business game organized by Solvay students but also by students of different faculties and different universities.
- The purpose of the SBG is to familiarize students with the reality of the work that they will face in their professional life. Therefore, the SBG organises five differents challenges to help them: an online one, a Strategy, a Marketing, a Banking Challenges and finally the Eloquence Challenge.
- The Game is based on an interactive economic simulation where the participants evolve within a defined competitive environment. The decisions taken by the participants will affect the key factors for success.
- The Game will take place in 6 stages: Stage 1: Registration Stage ; 2: Online Challenge ; Stage 3: Strategy Challenge ; 4: Banking Challenge ; Stage 5: Marketing Challenge ; Stage 6: Eloquence Challenge only for the finalists.
- The Game will begin on the 2nd of March 2012 and end on the 3rd of March 2012.
- The final results will be announced at the game itself after the Eloquence Challenge and on the SBG website, http://www.solvaybusinessgame.com (hereinafter called “the Site”) after the days of the event.
III. PARTICIPATION
- Participation to the SBG is open to students officially enrolled in a school or a university of higher education registered in the third year of Bachelor, first year of Master or last year of Master (hereinafter called “the Students”). Students doing their thesis or achieving the equivalent in order to obtain their diploma can also be considered as students. Once a student has obtained his/her diploma or equivalent in his/her country’s university or schoool, he/she can no longer be considered as a student. We, first, open the participation to the SBG at Business Engineering, Economics, Law and Engineering students.
- Participation in the SBG is subject to online electronic acceptance of the Official Rules and of the documentation concerning the assignment of the intellectual property and image rights.
- A financial contribution of 40 euros for two is required (20 euros each) but we will provide you with all the food and the beverages you need during the two days.
IV. REGISTRATION
- The Students must register (hereinafter called “the Registration”) in teams of 2 members (hereinafter the “Teams”) . Teams can change any of the required information specified in the registration form until the date of the event by sending an email at registration@solvaybusinessgame.com.
- The Teams must use the official registration form available on the Site (hereinafter called “the Registration Form”).
- The Registration Form specifies the fields that must obligatorily be completed. Incomplete registration forms will not be considered as eligible. If it appears that a candidate has given the wrong information concerning the registration, his/her team will be disqualified.
- At the time of Registration, the Teams will be requested to accept the Official Rules. Failing to do so, will make submitting the Registration Form impossible. Acceptance of the Official Rules in the name of the Team by the member of the Team who has personally submitted the Registration Form shall be deemed to amount to acceptance by the other members of the Team.
- The two members of the Teams must provide a valid personal e-mail address.
- The Solvay Business Game reserves the right to verify the validity of the information provided by the Teams at the time of the Registration and at any time during the SBG and to request copies of the identity cards and/or student cards of the school or university mentioned by the Team.
- Students may only be members of one Team. Any Student registered in more than one Team would cause the automatic disqualification of all of the Teams of which he/she is a member.
- In the event that the number of players in a Team is reduced to less than 2 members, the Team shall be disqualified. However, the Solvay Business Game reserves the right, not to disqualify teams in which a team member had a legitimate reason to leave their teams. The reasons considered as legitimate by Solvay Business Game are the following: pregnancy, accidents or hospitalization. Thereafter the one member of the team will have to find another team member to complete the Registration.
- Students must register under the first name and surname appearing on their passport/identity card.
V. USE OF THE RESULTS BY THE HR TEAMS OF THE SPONSORS
The Human Resources Managers of the sponsors of the Solvay Business Game may, at their full discretion, use the Results of their challenge.
VI. SUPPLEMENTARY PROVISIONS
Disqualifications
- At its sole discretion, the Solvay Business Game may exclude or ban a Team from participating if the Team or one of its members does not comply with the Official Rules or acts in an unfair or disruptive way.
- The Solvay Business Game forbids the Teams, at any stage of the Game, to communicate their strategy to each other or any specific information concerning the Teams’ decisions and in particular, all data contained in the Team’s data file are private and highly confidential.
- The Challenges and its associated documentation are copyrighted. All adaptation, reproduction or representation without the Solvay Business Game’s approval is considered a forgery punished by the law.
- The Teams shall have no recourse against the disqualification decisions.
- The Solvay Business Game has the right to disqualify and sue any participant who might try to destroy, disturb, damage or affect the proper functioning of the SBG.
Confidentiality obligation
- By participating in the SBG, the Students shall have access to information and various kinds of knowledge, in particular, commercial, financial, scientific, industrial or marketing information, concerning the activities, operations and studies of the sponsors, one or several of the companies in the sponsors’ Group or one or several companies with which they are or were related or in which they are interested. The Students shall also have access to information concerning individuals belonging to the above-mentioned companies (hereinafter called the “Information”).
- The Students shall take the measures necessary to keep the Information strictly confidential, except for the Information that has already fallen into the public domain.
- The Students acknowledge that the disclosure of the Information would be likely to cause the sponsors considerable damage, permitting the sponsors to engage their liability.
- The confidentiality obligation shall continue after the end of the SBG, for any reason whatsoever, until such time as the object of this clause ceases to exist.
Personal information
- The Solvay Business Game took appropriate measures, such as encoding, during the gathering of personal information to prevent, as far as possible, any unauthorized access. The Solvay Business Game undertakes to communicate to their sponsors the information provided at the time of Registration by the members of the Teams (e.g. the résumé will be communicated only if the Teams want to upload it).
- According to the “Informatique et Libertés” Law of 4 January 1978, any Student can exercise his/her right of access and of modification or request the suppression of the personal data.
Miscellaneous
- All the days and times stipulated in the Official Rules must be deemed to be the days and times within the Brussels time zone.
- The Solvay Business Game reserves the right to shorten, modify or cancel the SBG., especially in the event of unauthorized human intervention or other causes outside of the control of the Solvay Business Game, that would bring into question the administration, the security or the proper functioning of the SBG, without the Team or one of its members being able to claim for any loss against it.
- The SBG, its concept, its content, its appearance, its logo and any other graphic element and its organization are and shall remain the sole property of the Solvay Business Game.
- The Solvay Business Game is not responsible for the entry errors of the Teams and of the members of the Teams, for the incorrect functioning of the site, for incorrect e-mail addresses related to the SBG or for connection problems.
- The Teams shall not be reimbursed for the fees, equipment or resources used during their participation in the SBG.
- The participants give their assent so that the Solvay Business Game can take photographs and make short-movies where the participants can appear. Moreover, the participants give their agreement that the Solvay Business Game will be able to use these photographs and films for an unlimited duration.
